Rustic

(dress, Damselove / shoes, Doctor Martens / clutch, The Vintage Stash / rings, Colette Hayman / bracelet, Accessorize / necklace, Claire's)
(photos by my dad MK)

This outfit is far from rustic, but somehow it was the one word that popped into mind when I was editing the photos, and I'm not about to argue with my brain, since coming up with post titles always leaves me immensely frustrated. I think it must have been something to do with the oh-so-adorable floral print paired with a saddle-brown clutch that somehow reminded me of the countryside. Honestly though, I loved this print so much that I was set on getting this dress the moment I saw it, and I still love it enough to wear it repeatedly despite it being a little too snug. The cutting is amazing though, and this dress was perfect for a cousin's wedding. Oh, and my necklace (little pink and gold flowers strung together)-- is it not lovely? I know, there are so many things about this outfit that I like that I could go on all day about them.

I hope you all had an amazing Christmas (I spent mine spring cleaning and playing Cluedo with my family, which felt wonderful), and Happy New Year in advance! 2015 has sure come faster than I expected, and it feels like just yesterday that I ended my A levels. It's somewhat startling for me to think that there are only about 6 months left til I hit the big two-oh, and I'm desperately clinging onto the vestiges of my teenage-hood as best as I can. New Year Resolutions include being more organized and neat (this one is a distant dream, but it's always nice to hope), making less bad wardrobe decisions, and just generally improving on myself. And hopefully this new year we stick to our resolutions!

La Dorada

(top, Damselove / skirt, Bangkok / shoes, Doctor Martens / wallet, Michael Kors / gold medallion, Claire's, bib necklace, Colette Hayman / arrow bangle, Claire's, spiked cuff, Talisman's / heart pinky ring, Claire's, gold rings, Colette Hayman / sunnies, Japan)

Nothing says ostentatious more than a metallic skirt imbued with floral prints, paired with as many accessories as humanly possible. I'm imagining a full-length skirt, in this same print, pleated slightly and the waist and structured smooth fabric falling to the floor... the image is overwhelming, and something I wish I could see in real life. I felt extremely Cleopatra-esque in my gold bib necklace paired with a large, showy gold medallion, with my fingers bedecked in numerous rings, and I'm not going to lie, but it felt great to channel the vibes of the glamorous Queen of the Nile. Anyway, I seem to have paired this skirt numerous times in many of my outfits, but you'll have to admit that the metallic floral print is somewhat irresistible, and this time it made a good partner to my new dainty white cropped bralet embossed with little flowers and adding that much more femininity to my outfit with its frilled neckline.

This outfit post comes just in time for me to wish you all a Merry Christmas! I hope this festive month has been filled with happiness and joy for all of you. We cannot possibly have a white Christmas here in Singapore, but I created my own little Winter Wonderland. Happy Holidays to all, enjoy the remaining few days of 2014! (This post's title comes from one of Kresley Coles's books, by the way, in case any of you read them as well.)

Monday Blues

(sweater, Bugis Street / jeans, Topshop / belt, Bugis Street / ring, Stroberi / peace bracelet Beadstreet, blue braided wristband, Bangkok / shoes, Topshop / bag, Kanken)
(photos by Siu Farn)

So, what's up, besides being struck with a chronic case of being unable to look straight at the camera? I hope the holidays have been good to you all. (Three days to Christmas! I've been using that as an excuse to do a whole ton of shopping, because where's the holiday spirit without some retail therapy?)

The curse of the Monday blues strikes silently, but there's really nothing better than a good outfit to bring away those blues and make you feel good for the rest of the day. Think blue high-waisted jeans and the perfect cropped sweater that comes in a muted cyan overlaid with white flowers, because who could resist?

My adventures last week included trying my first ever rainbow cake at Dean & DeLuca, only to step out of the building a short while later and get drenched in a sudden torrential downpour that lasted all of ten minutes. I'm sure we must have all made quite a comical sight, standing at the traffic light waiting for the signal to cross the road, and being unable to cross despite being completely soaked in the rain. Apparently, you cannot quite have the rainbow without the rain.

Mismatched Florals

(jacket, Runway Bandits / dress, Uniqlo x Laura Ashley / high-cuts Vans / bag, London / necklace, Topshop)
(photos by Ahmad)

Doing death-defying stunts in a carpark with no heed for danger -- I have my friends to thank for following me to all sorts of places just to get photos for the blog. (I kid though, the carpark was empty and deserted; no sign of danger except for the burning sun.) The detail shots of this otufit came out really well, but somehow our photo-uploader service decided to play us by deleting all the photos from the folder, and I'm afraid they're all lost in the infinite world of IT now as little bytes floating around the internet. I only managed to salvage the photos you see now in this post, and I mourn for the lost photos dearly. Maybe this will teach me to bring along my own SD cards in the future!

Still, there's no harm in making do, and this particularly hot day found me prancing around a rooftop carpark in an old floral shift dress, a handy denim jacket that did well to give some dimension to the otherwise shapeless dress, floral tapestry print high-cut sneakers, and a black floral satchel, all in delightfully different and clashing floral prints. I felt like a walking garden for the rest of lessons that day.

Photo Diary: Universal Studios Japan

 Osaka, Japan

A day spent in the picturesque town of Universal Studios Japan - what could be any better? I have not actually been to USS before, so this was definitely an eye-opener for me. The Second-Hand Rose was by far my favourite shop signboard in the entire theme park, and I couldn't resist inserting a photo of it. I gather that making frequent visits to amusement parks must be an integral part of Japanese culture, because both DisneySea and USJ had these amazing popcorn buckets (you got that right, that ingenious little Sesame Street hot-air balloon is actually a popcorn bucket) that you could bring back every trip, so that you could just refill the popcorn and not have to pay for the additional paper bucket (which makes it a pretty environmentally-friendly device too). I'd originally thought that few would buy these pricey buckets, but it was so common to see people of all ages, toting these popcorn buckets in all shapes and colours. Even my sister succumbed to the temptation of carrying one around.

Dinner on this day was settled by ourselves, since my family opted not to partake in the Hokkaido crab feast that the tour guide offered to arrange for the tour group. We trawled the streets around our hotel after the shops had closed (eateries stay open way later than normal shops), and chanced upon a Mister Donut, where we bought and stuffed ourselves silly with the sweet pastries. What made the day even better was discovering a Mister Donut x Mos Burger collaboration, which had me in an absolute frenzy. Unfortunately, the burger, though delicious, did not photograph well, which leaves me the task of describing it instead - think fluffy cream puff pastry instead of normal hamburger buns, encasing a patty made of a disc of almond-studded chocolate, topped off with preserved peaches and berries that are surrounded with a wall of strawberry cream and drizzled with sweet berry sauce. You're welcome.

Orange You Tangerine

(dress, Topshop / shoes, Doctor Martens / bag, Burberry / spiked cuff, Bangkok, arrow bangle, Claire's / index ring, Stroberi, pinky ring, Claire's)
(photos by Cheryl)

It's always a good idea to be traipsing around clad in a dress that makes you stand out in the crowd. I'm talking about bright tangerine here, in the form of stretchy lyrca, shaped into a flattering skater dress. Perhaps a little unforgiving on the figure after a good meal at Lola's Cafe, but too irresistible anyway. In any case, I need to find some kind of occasion to wear this beauty out again-- perhaps with a parka thrown over to tone down the brightness of it a little, so that my friends will not spot me from a mile away in the school campus.

Editing photos for blog posts never fails to make me hungry, especially since most of my editing work is done at night. The brunch I had at Lola's was just the right amount of goodness to satisfy my craving for scrambled eggs and sausages, and I'll be sure to go back soon. Having the holidays around is always simultaneously a joy and a hassle, because planning for a gazillion outings every week is mentally draining, not to mention the tempting lure of shopping. I know, we've all been there. Still, nothing can quite quell my excitement for the holidays and new ootds-- I've got a bunch of new clothes that I cannot wait to wear out, and with Christmas coming around the corner, I smell new clothes in the near future. I can't wait. (I'm sorry, have I said I was excited yet?)
